The Body of Christ – Part 3

For the next few weeks I’ll be sharing about The Body of Christ – how we are all different parts but part of the same body (Romans 12:1-8). If you have missed any of the series check our blog posts for the others. I hope you enjoy reading and find some insight into how we all function differently.

– Luke

The Tongue (The Encourager)

No one is able to tell a story like these people; or sing like, or tell a joke. When I think of these people I think of Todd White. These people also make up a majority of preachers and public speakers. Not only do they represent the speaking aspect of the body but they’re also responsible for the food the body receives (i.e. The Word of God).

Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check... take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

– James 3:1-6

There is a big responsibility placed on these people’s shoulders to speak truth to the rest of the body because they are, by nature, very convincing people. I should mention here that another choice of vocation for these people is in sales.

These people seem happy-go-lucky and spend a lot of their time cheering people up but in fact they themselves can be very depressed and it has been argued that they become more depressed than other people. These people love comedy and to be the comedian. Amongst their friends they are the go-to person when you feel bad. Even though they aren’t normally considered intellectual they do make much better teachers (and preachers) than most because they’re so genuine in what they say when they preach, teach or tell a story.

These people also often become writers. They’re writing skill tends to stem from their ability to verbally communicate, so their writing is mostly dictated. Whether they are public speaking or you’re reading something they’ve written they’re are always entertaining and will always grab your attention and imagination. They always remember their life’s tribulations as valuable lessons and helpful anecdotes.

These people are always everyone’s best friend. Although the people they get along with best are people who are way more organised than they are; with money, time and resources. They find their help and input invaluable. Likewise, people who are a little on the organised side need these people’s carefree attitude in their life to balance themselves out.

Absolutely invaluable as a friend, teacher and preacher… These people are deathly loyal and will stand by your side until the end.
