Never Meant to Be

The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. – Genesis 9:2-3

We are afraid of the things that were never meant to be. We’re afraid of sickness. We’re afraid of starvation. We’re afraid of shedding blood. We’re afraid of having our blood shed. These things came to be after the fall. Some things that we detest, however, came after the flood. We detest killing animals for food. We detest people who speak languages we don’t understand. We detest people who have much when we have less. These things came about because of our actions. Everything that changed, that we are not comfortable with, are repercussions of our own actions.

Everyday people try to go back to the way things were. People eat vegan. People eat “Paleo”. We start community farms. We try to live in harmony with one another. Which is wonderful at a glance, but we’re past that unfortunately. Our world is broken. People still kill. People still steal. People still disrespect each other. We try so hard to make it back to Eden but the path doesn’t exist. There is only one way back. It isn’t peace on Earth. It isn’t community farms. It isn’t naturally sourced goods. It isn’t through uniformal religion.

There’s only one way…

He’s the cure to sickness.

The cure to pain.

The cure to war.

The cure to poverty.

He’s the name above all names; the prince of peace.

He is Jesus.

– Luke
